Let there be light, I said
durational performance on single channel video
43:12
2013
The video documents the entire process of the artist bringing light to the sky from darkness with a flashlight.
Foucault said, the stability of a thing was only its movement indefinitely slowed down. The dawn would be here no matter what, it is the power of nature, the inviolable holy beauty, the magnificence of God. Through this durational performance, the artist is dedicated to an useless act while trying to evoke a miracle. The gestures are absurd, ridiculous and sentimental when the attempt has failed before it has ever begun. Yet the artist still manages to find reason within all the futile efforts, it being the endless possibilities of the world, of art! In this mocking towards the sacred and the self, are the sincerely wasted, but truly existing efforts.
